Wine Bag Buyer's Guide: Single Bottle vs. Multi-Bottle Formats
Share
Wine bags look simple until you're the one placing a bulk order. Beyond bottle count, format choice affects protection, presentation and cost — and getting it wrong usually shows up as breakage or an awkward fit.
Single bottle: retail and individual gifting
A well-built single bottle bag needs a reinforced base and a snug (not loose) fit — too much room inside means the bottle can shift and knock against the base during transit. This is the right format for retail shelf display, individual client gifts, or any scenario where bottles are handed over one at a time.
2-bottle: the most common gift set format
Two-bottle bags need a centre divider, not just a wider single compartment. Without it, bottles knock against each other. This is the most requested format for paired gift sets — think reds-and-whites tastings or his-and-hers gifting.
3 and 4-bottle: cases and hampers
Once you're past two bottles, individual dividers per bottle stop being optional. A 4-bottle bag without proper compartmentalisation is genuinely risky for transit — we build these with a two-by-two divider layout and structural reinforcement in the base and side seams.
A note on bottle shapes
Our standard formats are sized to typical 750ml wine bottle dimensions. Champagne bottles, spirits bottles and gift-boxed bottles are usually a different shape entirely (wider base, different shoulder profile), so if your order includes anything other than standard wine bottles, it's worth sharing exact bottle dimensions before finalising a size — it's a five-minute check that avoids a bag that doesn't actually fit.
Material matters for wine specifically
We recommend 300–340 GSM jute with a laminated interior for wine bags, heavier than what we'd use for a standard retail tote. Bottles are heavy, and the interior lamination protects against any condensation from a chilled bottle marking the fabric.
